Cables with 2 connectors

Pre-wired connectors are factory-assembled cordsets combining a circular connector with a terminated cable, ready to install without field wiring. Used across sensor/actuator networks, fieldbus installations, conveyor systems, and industrial Ethernet infrastructure. Engineers choose them to eliminate wiring errors, reduce commissioning time, and maintain consistent IP protection throughout the installation.

M8, M12, M23 and fieldbus cordsets — straight, angled, single- and double-ended

Pre-wired connectors are circular connector assemblies with factory-terminated cable attached — available as single-ended cordsets (connector + flying leads for panel termination) or double-ended cordsets (connectors on both ends for device-to-device connection). The most common sizes are M8 (compact sensors, tight spaces) and M12 (general-purpose sensors, actuators, fieldbus, and industrial Ethernet). Larger formats — M16, M23, and 7/8" — cover higher pin counts and power distribution applications.

M12 connectors use mechanical coding to prevent mismating: A-coded for standard sensor/DC power, B-coded for PROFIBUS, D-coded for Fast Ethernet (100BASE-TX), and X-coded for Gigabit and 10GbE Ethernet. Protocol-specific cordsets are available for PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, CANopen, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET.

Cable jackets are available in PVC (cost-effective, static installations) and PUR (polyurethane — preferred for drag chains, continuous flex, and oil-exposed environments). Shielded versions are available for EMI-sensitive applications such as servo drives and data networks.

Key technical selection criteria

  • Thread/shell size: M5, M8, M12, M16, M23, or 7/8"
  • Pin count: 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 12, or 17 pins depending on series
  • M12 coding type: A / B / D / X — must match the mating device
  • IP rating: IP67 for standard washdown; IP69K for high-pressure food and beverage environments
  • Cable jacket: PUR for flex/drag chain; PVC for fixed routing
  • Connector orientation: Straight or 90° right-angle for cable routing in confined spaces
  • Shielding: Required for fieldbus, Ethernet, and EMI-sensitive signal lines
  • Cable length: Standard 1 m, 2 m, 5 m, 10 m; custom lengths available

When should I use M8 instead of M12 connectors?

Use M8 where mounting space is tight and current requirements are low (1–2 A). M12 is the better choice for general-purpose wiring, higher current loads, fieldbus, or industrial Ethernet.

What does A-coded, D-coded, or X-coded mean on M12 connectors?

The coding key prevents mismatching between incompatible systems. A-coded is for sensor/DC power, D-coded for Fast Ethernet (100BASE-TX), and X-coded for Gigabit and 10GbE Ethernet.

Can pre-wired connectors be used in drag chain or continuous flex applications?

Yes, but you must select cordsets with PUR-jacketed cable rated for continuous flex and verify the minimum bend radius meets your drag chain geometry.

What is the difference between single-ended and double-ended cordsets?

Single-ended cordsets have one connector and flying leads for termination at a terminal block or I/O module. Double-ended cordsets have connectors on both ends for direct device-to-device connection.
