Imagine that a motor or control module needs to be replaced on a production line. If all wires are connected separately, each of them must be disconnected, checked and later reconnected. With a suitable EPIC connector, this work can be done much more easily. This means more straightforward maintenance and lower risk of incorrect connection.
The name EPIC is an abbreviation of Environmentally Protected Industrial Connectors. These connectors are intended for safe and detachable connections in machine building, control cabinets and outdoor equipment.
LAPP EPIC industrial connectors are divided into three main categories: rectangular, circular and solar connectors. Each category is intended for different technical requirements and operating environments.
EPIC rectangular connectors are suitable for machine building, control cabinets and industrial equipment where multiple contacts are required in one connection. They usually consist of a housing, contact insert, contacts and cable gland.
Did you know that the EPIC modular system allows power, control signals, data transmission and even a compressed air connection to be combined in one rectangular housing? This is especially useful in modular equipment where fast and clear component replacement.
EPIC circular connectors are compact and suitable for sensors, actuators, motors and automation systems. M8 and M12 solutions are often used for signal and industrial data transmission, while M23 connectors are found in motor and servo drive connections.
The circular design takes up less space and is convenient in equipment where the connection area is limited. However the same outer size does not mean the same contact arrangement or electrical parameters.
EPIC solar connectors are intended for DC circuits of photovoltaic systems. They are used to connect solar panels, inverters and other system components.
Here, component compatibility, correctly crimped contacts and a cable that meets the requirements are especially important. The connector must not be selected only by its external shape — check rated voltage, current, cable cross-section and the manufacturer's instructions.
For EPIC rectangular connectors, housings with two performance levels are available — Standard and ULTRA. The most suitable variant is selected according to the equipment operating environment and protection requirements.
Intended for normal industrial conditions where increased protection against corrosion or electromagnetic interference is not required.

An important nuance regarding EMC protection: a metal housing alone is not enough. The cable shield must be connected correctly and an electrically continuous connection between the housing parts must be ensured. Only then does the shielding work as a single system.
The designations H-A, H-BE, H-D and H-Q indicate different series of EPIC rectangular connector contact inserts. Each is intended for different power, contact density and mounting requirements.
H-A — compact series, also available with screw connection.
H-BE — universal series for power and control circuit connections.
H-D — provides higher contact density and is usually used with crimp contacts.crimp contacts.
H-Q — compact series, also suitable for motor and servo drive connections.
MC and MH — modular systems in which modules of different functions can be combined in one connector.
The contact numbers indicated on the inserts help connect each wire in the correct position. The designation PE indicates the protective conductor contact, while pin and socket describes the contact version. The housing size marking must also be checked, because only parts of compatible size can be interconnected.
IP65 or IP68 marking describes protection against dust and water. The specified protection class is usually valid only for a fully connected and locked connector with a correctly installed cable gland. A disconnected connector may require a suitable protective cap.
CE, UL, CSA and VDE designations do not automatically apply to the entire EPIC product range. CE is a conformity marking, not an independent certificate, while UL, CSA or VDE approval must be checked in the technical documentation of the specific article.
