Efficient and precise operation of the servo motors Trio Motion MXL & MXM-0

Servo motors are very diverse and have a wide range of applications. They are used from toys and consumer electronics to even complex manufacturing automation processes. In some industries, servo motors are used to replace conventional AC and stepper motors, as well as hydraulic and pneumatic systems. We previously wrote about Trio Motion Technology, introducing you to the new collaboration partner, its history, products and applications. This time we want to dive deeper into the MXL and MXM, high performance servo motors from Trio Motion Technology.

In this article, we will look at the following topics:

Types of Servo Motors

Both the MXL and MXM servo motors are well-suited for tasks requiring rapid and accurate movements. These motors are highly similar, offering options for both 230VAC and 400VAC, along with 17-bit and 23-bit absolute encoders in their base configuration However, there are slight differences. (See them in the table below). The absolute encoders retain information about the motor's position even when the power is turned off, ensuring the ability to resume from the last known position.

MXL low-inertia servo motors

MXL is a line of low inertia servo motors. These motors have low inertia, which means they can accelerate and decelerate quickly. Low inertia motors are known for their fast response and are suitable for applications that require rapid changes in speed and direction. The MXL line of servo drives are designed to work in conjunction with Trio DX servo drives ranging from 50W to 5kW and IP65 rating.

MXL servo drive power range

  • 230 VAC from 50W to 3kW with 0,16Nm to 4,78Nm;
  • 400 VAC from 1kW to 5kW with 4,78Nm to 15,8Nm;

So, in general, MXL servo motors are designed for manufacturing needs where speed, accuracy, response time and space constraints are critical. These motors, when paired with suitable servo drives, can be used in a variety of industries and manufacturing requirements, including robotics, automation, CNC machining and more. We are confident that their wide power range from 50W to 5kW will provide the right choice to suit your project needs.

MXM medium inertia servo motors

MXM is a line of medium inertia servomotors. These motors have medium inertia, which means they can accelerate and decelerate quickly. Medium inertia motors are known for their fast response and are suitable for applications requiring moderate changes in speed and direction. The MXM line of servo drives are designed to work in conjunction with Trio DX servo drives ranging from 850W to 7.5kW and are IP65 rated.

MXM servo Motor

MXM servo drive power range

  • 230 VAC from 850W to 1,8kW with 5,41Nm to 8,28Nm;
  • 400 VAC from 850kW to 7,5kW with 5,41Nm to 48Nm;

MXM servo motors have medium inertia and speed. When combined with DX servo drives, these motors can provide versatile and powerful solutions for a variety of projects. They are especially useful where precise control, fast response and high torque in a compact package are required. Their flexibility in terms of encoder and braking options makes them suitable for a variety of industrial and automation needs.

Where are servo drive systems used?

Primarily, ZTF LĀSMA customers use servo drive systems in industrial sectors to automate the operation of equipment and increase production capacity and production volumes. Below we have listed the main applications of servo drive systems, such as:

  • In aviation companies;
  • in manufacturing equipment;
  • in CNC processing equipment;
  • in food processing equipment;
  • in medical equipment;
  • in marking equipment;
  • in textile processing equipment;
  • in packaging equipment;
  • and in other material processing equipment

Advantages of MXL & MXM servo motors

  • Integrated braking - Some motor variations are equipped with integrated braking. This can be useful for projects that require controlled stopping or load holding.
  • High torque - Despite their small size, MXL and MXM servo motors are designed to provide high torque. This feature is valuable for projects requiring significant force to move and control the load.
  • Dynamic feedback - Alongside compatible Trio Motion Technology servo drives, the motors offer high dynamic response. This means they can quickly adapt to load changes or environmental factors, maintaining precise control and accuracy.
  • Compact size - MXL and MXM servo motors are designed in small sizes, allowing flexible use in various projects with space constraints.
  • Fast and precise positioning - The combination of MXL and MXM motors with DX servo drives DX servo drives enables fast and precise positioning. This is crucial for tasks where precision and repeatability are essential, such as in CNC machines, robotics, and automated manufacturing systems.
