It made people's work much easier, but it also led to serious injuries and deaths caused by powerful production machines. Now, the age of modern technology is developing rapidly and electronic equipment must serve to protect people as much as possible. People working in industrial environments are most vulnerable to accidents, such as factory workers, plant operators, mechanics and similar professions who are exposed to a wide range of powerful, bulky equipment and toxic substances on a daily basis. The Latvian State Labour Inspectorate shows that between 1 January and 10 September 2023, there have been 18 deaths in the course of direct work duties. In 2022, there were 22 deaths in the same period. Accidents resulting in serious injuries were 150 in 2023 and 174 in 2022. Here are some examples.
Accidents involving chemicals are common. For example, a worker was pouring a chemical into a reactor where it reacted with another chemical already inside. A little later, the person lost consciousness. The NMP was called and the victim was taken to a medical facility. The investigation revealed that the victim had been poisoned by a poisonous gas during the work process.

In a metalworking plant, a steel melting furnace ladle was in contact with hot metal and a violent outburst of heated gas flames occurred. Flames rose from the bottom of the platform and engulfed the platform and two people standing on it. Unfortunately, the persons suffered fatal burns. (Source).
