Telemecanique Sensors Preventa XCSRM series non-contact RFID safety switches monitor access to hazardous machine areas, such as doors, lids and protective covers. The reader is mounted on the fixed part, and the transponder – on the movable guard. When the guard is opened, the switch interrupts the safety output signal so that an appropriately designed control system can stop the hazardous movement.
RFID, or radio-frequency identification, enables the reader to recognise a coded transponder without physical contact.
Uniquely coded models: XCSRM10, XCSRM13, XCSRM30 and XCSRMU3.Generally coded models: XCSRML0 and XCSRML3 – with a lower level of protection against defeat.
Non-contact operation reduces mechanical wear and allows the switch to be installed in a confined space.
LED indicators show the switch status; advanced models also offer a diagnostic output for a PLC.
The degrees of protection are IP65 and IP67. IP69K applies only to models without an M12 connector or pigtail connection.
The advanced model supports series connection of multiple switches.
| Standard model | Advanced model |
|---|---|---|
Connection | 5 contacts | 8 contacts M12 |
System architecture | Individual connection | Individual or series connection |
Functions | 2 OSSD safety outputs, status indication | 2 OSSD outputs, EDM, start/reset function, diagnostics for a PLC |
Unique coding | XCSRM10 | XCSRM13 |
Re-pairing | XCSRM30 (two re-pairing operations possible) | XCSRMU3 (unlimited re-pairing) |
General coding | XCSRML0 | XCSRML3 |
In uniquely coded models, the transponder is paired with the specific switch. The transponder replacement procedure must be checked in the manufacturer's instructions for the relevant model. The suitability of generally coded versions must be assessed based on the machine risk assessment.
Standard models are available with a 2, 5 or 10 m cable, an M12 connector or a pigtail cable with an M12 connector. Advanced models are available with an M12 connector or in a pigtail version.
Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
Power supply | 24 V DC |
Safety outputs | 2 PNP NO OSSD. Maximum current specified in the catalogue: 300 mA |
Operating distance | Typical: 12 mm; assured operating distance: 10 mm; assured release distance: 25 mm |
Response time when the transponder enters the operating zone | ≤ 250 ms |
Risk time when the transponder leaves the operating zone | Tr < 55 ms; add 12 ms per switch in a series connection |
PFHd | 2,62 × 10⁻⁹ per reader |
Protection and operating temperature | IP65, IP67; IP69K, except for M12 and pigtail versions. From −25 to +70 °C |
Safety performance | Up to SIL 3, SILCL 3, PL e, category 4 with an appropriate safety control system |

Operating distances are determined with the reader and transponder mounted facing each other on a non-magnetic support, without mutual misalignment and at an ambient temperature from +20 to +25 °C. The catalogue states that PFHd 2,62 × 10⁻⁹ applies to one reader; the value is given in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1 and EN IEC 62061.
The risk time specified in the catalogue increases in a series connection by 12 ms per switch. The system design must assess the risk of fault masking and its effect on the achievable safety level. The specified PL and SIL levels apply to the safety system as a whole and depend on its design and connection.
