Millions of inductive position sensors are currently used in virtually every possible industry, allowing them to detect metal objects and metal structures without contact. Whether it is the search for a new sensor or the need to replace an old sensor, it is important to choose the correct sensor specifications so that the newly installed sensor works as before or as intended. The main technical parameters for inductive sensors, from which the sensor can be selected sequentially, will be discussed below. When choosing a sensor, it would be important to sequentially select the parameters that are most important to you and cannot be replaced.

Example of inductive sensor parameter selection with description:

1. Housing size:

  • Cylindrical standard sizes: M8, M12, M18, M30, etc.
  • Cubic shapes, different sizes: (W x H x D)

2. Mounting type and operating distance:

  • Flush - can be mounted with a metal surface (usually a shorter working distance)
  • Non-Flush - mounting with protrusion above the metal surface (larger working distance)

3. Output type (electrical circuit):

  • 3-wire (4-wire) connection - independent power supply 10..30VDC and output signal: PNP or NPN connection
  • 2-wire connection - with load switch type output, connection voltage 10..30VDC or 20..250VAC / DC

4. Initial contact state before sensor operation:

  • NO (normally open)
  • NC (normally closed)

5. Connection type:

  • Connector: M8, M12
  • With cable: 2, 5, 10m
  • With cable and connector
