What is the competition "Made in Wales Awards 2023"?

One of the aims "Made in Wales Awards 2023" competition is support and celebrate great products, innovations and ideas from businesses of all kinds and sizes in the Wales region. The competition is organized by Insider Media, the UK's most successful regional B2B media company. Insider Media regularly publishes six regional magazines and organizes over 140 market-leading events. It is noteworthy that Insider Media is the only regional news media with 140,000 subscribers. Additionally, its website is visited by more than 250,000 unique users. With a highly experienced team of employees, it stands out as a fast-growing and forward-looking company.

Manufacturer of the Year in Wales

Invetrek DrivesWe are delighted to announce that Invertek Drives has been shortlisted for "Manufacturer of the Year (over £25m)". The company was up against other major manufacturers including, Shortlisted, CAF, SPTS division of KLA Corporation and Safran Seats.

Receiving the award on behalf of Invertek were Shaun Dean (Chairman), Adrian Ellam (CEO), and Dr David Jones (Innovation Director)

Shaun said“It's our people who have achieved this award. Since acquiring Invertek in 2019, Sumitomo Heavy Industries has invested in the business and its people. Today, we can see the rewards of that and the hard work of our team"

Insider Media unique competition "Made in Wales Awards" celebrated great products, innovation, business success and working practices from Welsh manufacturing companies of all sizes. See the table below for all the categories, entrants and winners.

Mallows Bottling – Drinks producer Mallows Bottling diversified into soft drinks production and secured a contract to make 60 million bottles of tonic water per year.
Manufacturing Future Talent Award Shortlisted, Safran Seats GB, Siltbuster, SPTS division of KLA Corporation IAC – an electrical control systems business, employs eight apprentices on its scheme which it developed with Newport and District Group Training Association.
Manufacturing Start-up Award Shortlisted, Río and Môr, Dryad Compact Syngas Solutions – Compact Syngas Solutions developed a process that generates hydrogen gas from waste wood and other non-recyclable materials. It secured £4m from the UK government's Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage Innovation Programme.
Manufacturing Innovation Award Shortlisted, Winslow Adaptics, 
LITELOK, FuelActive, Leggett & Platt Automotive, Ipsen Biopharm, Safran Seats GB, FSG Tool & Die
GOS Tool & Engineering Services  makes vehicles and equipment for railway work. It designed machinery to install 192 kilometres of electrical cables in tunnels below London.
Export Award Shortlisted, Genesis Biosciences, Limb-art, Medellux, Burns Pet Nutrition, BCB International, Penderyn Distillery, SPTS division of KLA Corporation Huntingdon Fusion Techniques – which makes pipe purging equipment, secured export orders with buyers including Intel, SpaceX and Blue Origin.
Apprentice of the Year

Shortlisted, Michael King, Teilan Loveluck, Ross Sykes, Siltbuster, Morgan Wheeler, Safran Seats GB, In the Welsh Wind Distillery, Customised Sheet Metal

Rhys Howells-Smith, IAC – takes time to support more junior apprentices, worked on engineering projects across South Wales, and was described by his employer as “a very practical individual with a logical mind".
Sustainable / Ethical Manufacturer Award Shortlisted, FuelActive, Winslow Adaptics, Safran Seats GB, IG Design, IAC, Nice-Pak International, Burns Pet Nutrition, Gaia Hire Burns Pet Nutrition Burns Pet Nutrition introduced cold fill manufacturing to reduce energy usage and developed plans to move to a carbon neutral partner for dry food manufacturing.
Medical, Life Sciences and Healthcare Award Shortlisted, DHG, Frontier Medical Group, Benson Viscometers, Genesis Biosciences Ipsen Biopharm Ipsen makes products to support neurological conditions. It increased capacity at its Wrexham site by 40 per cent through continual process optimisation and operational improvements.

BCB InternationalBCB International makes life-saving and protective equipment. It scaled up production of its FireDragon cooking fuel and grew its engineering team from one to four people.

Manufacturer of the Year (over £25m)

Shortlisted, CAF, SPTS division of KLA Corporation, Safran Seats  Invertek Drives – Invertek makes variable frequency drives. The company started an extension to its Welshpool plant which will enable it to more than triple production to over 1.2 million units a year.

The winners will be announced and the awards will be presented in Liverpool on 27 June 2024. The event will bring together some of the UK's best companies and organisations.
